Motorcyclist dies in collision, passenger transported to Lubbock

The Texas Department of Public Safety detailed a 32-year-old Odessa motorcyclist died after he was involved in a two-vehicle collision, while the passenger was listed in serious condition and transported to Lubbock.

The reported fatal collision happened at 8:29 p.m. April 15 on West 16th Street, also known as Farm-to-Market Road 3472, about two miles west of Odessa, the DPS press release stated.

Troopers say Olivas Elia Hernanez, 50, of Odessa was driving a 2007 Ford Fusion with passenger 54-year-old Odessan Jose Luis Vasquez. Joshua Lynn Fornash, 32, of Odessa was driving a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle with passenger 22-year-old Odessan Monica Rene Chavez.

The preliminary information showed the Fusion was traveling west on W. 16th Street in the turning lane, the press release stated. The motorcycle was traveling east on W. 16th Street in the right lane. The Fusion made a left turn into a parking lot in front of the motorcycle causing the motorcycle to collided with the Fusion.

Troopers say Fornash was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ector County Medical Examiner, while Chavez was listed in serious condition and transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock.

Hernanez wasn’t injured and Vasquez was treated and released, the press release stated.
