Midland man killed in fiery crash

A Midland man was killed and four people injured in a three-vehicle crash in Midland County Monday night.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a Ford F-150, Lorenzo Najera, 33, struck a tractor trailer he was trying to pass on southbound FM 1788 around 6:30 p.m. Najera then lost control of his vehicle and traveled into oncoming traffic and was struck by a Chevrolet 2500.

Najera’s vehicle was thrown off the roadway and engulfed in flames, according to DPS.

Najera was pronounced dead at the scene and his passengers, two girls, ages 3 and 10, and a 32-year-old woman, were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Chevy was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, but the driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
