Midland man dies in fiery crash

A 48-year-old Midland man was killed Thursday afternoon in a fiery crash on Interstate Highway 20.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Gerardo Beltran was traveling west on I-20 in a Chevrolet Silverado when he veered off the roadway around 3:15 p.m., broke through the center median guardrail and continued west down the center median. The Chevy then vaulted from a ledge down into a drainage area between the east and westbound lanes and caught fire.

Beltran couldn’t get out of the vehicle and died from injuries at the scene of the crash, which was at mile marker 101 in Ector County.
