Midland ISD set for annual Mental Health Conference

MIDLAND Midland ISD on Nov. 10 will host its ninth annual Permian Basin Mental Health Conference, a free event that provides professional development to counselors across the state of Texas.

The conference takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 2104 W. Louisiana Ave., Midland.

This year’s theme, Energizing the Conversation: Prioritizing Mental Health in Order to Foster Skills that Promote Student Social, Emotional, and Academic Success is catered toward educators, counselors, administrators, social workers, mental health professionals, or anyone else who shares a passion of supporting the mental well-being of students.

Author and renowned mental health expert Horacio Sanchez has been tapped as the keynote speaker, and will offer insights into promoting student mental health to maximize achievement. The conference will also feature an array of breakout sessions covering topics such as resiliency, effective communication, coping skills, play therapy, and many other vital subjects.

MISD recognizes the profound impact that mental health has on academic success, and is committed to creating a supportive environment for students. In collaboration with the Midland Education Foundation and Chevron, this conference brings together experts and professionals to share strategies and best practices for addressing the mental health needs of students.
