Midland County Fair returns

MIDLAND Last year’s Midland County Fair was held in-person for the first time since the pandemic started.

While it was a slightly scaled down version, Executive Director of the Midland County Fair Kasey Kelly says this year’s event will be back to normal.

This year’s Midland County Fair will take place from Aug. 25-28 at the Midland Horseshoe Arena.

“Last year was tough with just coming out of COVID,” Kelly said. “We weren’t able to host in 2020. In 2021, we were just coming out of COVID. We had to make a lot of cuts. Things weren’t quite as big as we wanted it to be. But we still had a great time. We still had a great amount of people. It was tough though because a lot of people and volunteers weren’t able to make it.”

This year, Kelly says the fair has been fortunate.

“We have some great sponsors and we’ve been able to bring in some new and exciting things,” Kelly said. “We have so many cool, fun things to offer. We’ve been listening to what people want. We heard what they wanted and hope they’re happy with what we have.”

The carnival portion begins today.

The actual fair is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Friday.

There will be plenty of entertainment lined up throughout the weekend.

HopeFest, a Christian music festival will begin at 4 p.m. Aug. 27 at The Horseshoe.

Tonight, Jason Boland and the Stragglers will perform at 9:30 p.m.

Numerous other events will be going on throughout the fair.

“We have the Strong Man amazing entertainer that does some great shows all weekend,” Kelly said. “We have a lot of local entertainers that come in and do shows throughout. We have two nights of bull riding. We have our cowboy mounted shooters. We have our misfit cowboy and petting zoo.”

Of course, there will also be some new events this year as well.

“We have remote control racing cars,” Kelly said. “We have the ninja walk where kids and adults can try out an obstacle course. We have rodeo 101. That’s not only educational but also an interactive exhibit. We’re also having our first ever hot dog eating contest on Friday. We’re also having a kids party and we’ll be doing an ice cream eating competition as well. We have a lot of local authors on Saturday morning and afternoon and reading to kids. We have a weekend pack of fun, exciting stuff.”
