Mental health conference set for Friday

Midland ISD Guidance and Counseling will host its annual Mental Health Conference at 8:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 2104 W. Louisiana Ave., in Midland.

The conference is made possible through a donation from Chevron. This year’s theme is Powering Forward: The Wounded Healer, and the main discussion will center on self-care and resilience, and how to instill these skills into students. The keynote speaker is Dr. Adam Saenz, a psychologist based in Bryan.

The event draws counselors, agencies working with children and mental health professionals from across West Texas who want to learn more about addressing their own mental health needs, past traumas, communication barriers and establishing boundaries.

The conference will host up to 150 in-person and 75 virtual attendees, and it is free for professionals in the West Texas region.
