MCH COVID patients more than 100

For the first time since the first week of September Medical Center Hospital’s COVID inpatients now number more than 100.

Elective surgeries, which in previous surges have been suspended, remain on track at the hospital. Visitation screenings also remain in place at MCH and most hospitals.

MCH, as of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, reported 101 COVID patients in-house.

MCH detailed Tuesday that the hospital is just short of maximum capacity and dealing with staff shortages due to COVID.

Officials are asking community members to be careful and take precautions. They urge Odessans to get vaccinated and boosted and to get tested if ill.

The World Health Organization on Tuesday reported a 20 percent surge in global cases with almost 19 million new cases in the past week. The organization warned high levels of transmission give the virus more opportunity to mutate and form new variants.
