MC to host pre-apprentice electrical students

Skillpoint Alliance Permian Basin, a newly established non-profit workforce development provider in West Texas and New Mexico, has announced that Midland College will host the first cohort of pre-apprentice electrical students.

The class will be taught by Skillpoint Alliance instructor Brent Bacon and will run from June 6 through July 1.

Skillpoint Permian Basin offers rapid training programs in the electrical, plumbing, HVAC trades, among others, to the Permian Basin communities in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico.

Applicants who successfully enroll in the program will prepare for work as entry-level electrical apprentices.

Students learn about electrical safety, hand tools, power tools, and the differences between residential and commercial employment job functions. Some of the hands-on lessons include how to wire device boxes, bend conduit, and assemble raceways. Participants obtain their OSHA 10 certification during the program and will also receive assistance in obtaining their Texas Department of Licensing and Registration Electrical Apprentice License.
