Man indicted on intoxication manslaughter charge

A former Monahans resident has been indicted on an intoxication manslaughter charge in the January death of a 28-year-old Denton man.

Raul Villanueva, 36, was driving east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 when he struck a vehicle being driven by Arnoldo De Las Rosa head-on about 15 miles east of Monahans shortly before 3 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Online Ector County District Court records indicate Villanueva, whose birthday was the day before the crash, posted a $100,000 bond. Judge Denn Whalen of the 70th Ector County District Court granted a defense motion asking that Villanueva be allowed to await trial from his new home in Junction, Kimble County. Villanueva’s attorneys noted Villanueva sustained major injuries in the crash, has had to undergo several surgeries and still has an open wound.

Villanueva must have an ignition interlock device installed on his car and wear a GPS ankle monitor, according to court records.
