A New Mexico man is dead after a fatal three-car wreck Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of University Boulevard and Tanglewood Lane in Odessa.

Buddy Monahan, 52, was taken from the scene and later pronounced dead at Medical Center Hospital, Odessa police spokesman Cpl. Steve LeSueur said.

At about 3 p.m., a Dodge Durango was stopped at a red light on University Boulevard at the intersection with Tanglewood Lane, with a Ford Expedition stopped behind it, before a Ford Focus traveling at a high rate of speed struck the Expedition, pushing it into the Durango, LeSueur said.

Monahan was driving the Ford Focus. His family was notified before his name was released, LeSueur said.

The driver of the Ford Expedition was taken to Medical Center Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Dodge Durango was not injured. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles, LeSueur said.
