Man charged with assaulting, threatening girlfriend

A 30-year-old man was arrested after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to kill her with a handgun.

Tyski Wells, 30, was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, a second-degree felony.

The reported assault happened Dec. 28 in the 4500 block of Dixie Boulevard, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit stated. The complainant, identified as Lasaise Akins, stated she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Wells, at the listed residence.

Akins received injuries that required medical treatment at Medical Center Hospital including stitches to her lip, swelling to her face, bleeding from her nose and bruises on her chest.

Akins stated that Wells began arguing with her over a text message she had received and then he began assaulting her by punching her and pushing her down, the affidavit stated. Akins also stated that Wells grabbed a turquoise in color Glock 9mm semi automatic handgun and placed it to her head threatening to kill her.

Wells was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Jan. 5, jail records show. He had one bond totaling $30,000 and posted bail on Jan. 5.
