Man charged with assaulting girlfriend

A 26-year-old man was arrested after reportedly assaulting and threatening to murder his girlfriend following a verbal dispute about family issues.
Odessa Police Department officers were dispatched Monday at about 9:35 p.m. to two locations within 200 feet of each other due to the caller fleeing the first residence.
When officers arrived at the second location, the Smoker’s Outlet on North West County, David Sandoval told them that his girlfriend had locked him out of their apartment.
The woman was found hiding inside of the bathroom of the Smoker’s Outlet Road after the store manager called 9-1-1.
The OPD affidavit stated the woman that fled after making the first emergency call had heavy swelling to the right side of her face, bleeding from her mouth and lips and redness on her neck. She told officers Sandoval had assaulted her.
After striking his girlfriend in the face and ribs several times, the affidavit stated, Sandoval grabbed her by the throat with both hands and choked her. Sandoval also sliced the woman’s car tires and said he would return to kill her, the affidavit detailed.
The woman reportedly fled after Sandoval set his knife down and left to get a beer.
The woman was transported to ORMC for medical treatment and Sandoval was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. He has a $50,000 bond and remains in custody as of Tuesday afternoon, jail records show.
