Man charged with assaulting girlfriend, 11-month-old girl

A 27-year-old man was arrested after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and her infant child with his driver’s door and then fired several rounds from a black handgun in her and her baby’s direction.

Jevon Leander Bell, 27, was charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence), a second-degree felony. He is being held by the U.S. Marshals.

The reported assault happened at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in the 1700 block of W. 13th Street, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit detailed.

Officers located the victim, identified in the police report as 25-year-old Destinee Moore, who told police she was physically assaulted by her boyfriend, Bell, prior to the disturbance escalating outside in the driveway.

Moore stated she was holding her toddler child, an 11-month-old girl, in her arms when Bell reversed with his driver door open and intentionally struck her and her child causing her to go beneath the door, the affidavit detailed.

Moore also told police that prior to Bell leaving the scene, he stopped in the roadway, exited his vehicle and fired several rounds from a black handgun in the direction of her and her child. One of the rounds struck Moore’s parked vehicle.

Moore had a fractured left arm, visible injuries to her neck from being choked and scratches and red marks on her body from being struck by Bell’s vehicle door, the affidavit stated. The 11-month-old girl had a cut from the incident.

OPD officers found several shell casings at the scene of the incident, which was consistent with Moore’s claim of assault.

Bell was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Jan. 7, jail records show. He has four bonds totaling $100,000 and was still in custody as of Wednesday morning.
