Man accused of stealing $11K

An Odessa oilfield equipment rental company lost more than $11,000 recently after being scammed via email.

According to an Ector County Sheriff’s Office report, an employee of Jack of Oil Trades told an investigator she sent a $5,700 payment to what she thought was an Arkansas fuel company on March 18 and then a second payment for the same amount on April 5.

The employee later heard from the fuel company that they’d not received any payments, their emails had been hacked and Jack of Oil Trades may have been scammed out of the money, the report stated. When she looked at her email she discovered the email she’d received with account information was different than the actual billing personnel’s email.

Jack of Oil Trades is working with its bank to try to get their funds back and the ECSO is attempting to find the owner of the email account.
