Local program receives grants

The local Child and Family Program of Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services recently received $30,000 in grants from regional foundations.

In Odessa and Midland, the PCHAS teaches parenting skills, using effective methods to improve both daily routines and healthy relationships.

The Henry Foundation, which awarded $5,000 to the program, makes grants to qualified non-profits, supporting social services, education, health services and other activities that change lives. The Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation, based in Dallas, awarded $25,000. Its guiding principles include compassion for the vulnerable and opportunities to thrive.

PCHAS Regional Director Scott Waller says that these grants will help families in crisis stay together. “Families may be coping with a divorce, illness, poverty, violence or other challenges,” he explained in a news release. “We strive to provide permanent homes for children and improve self-sufficiency for families.”
