LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Odessa council gets it wrong again

Once again, our City Council has acted in a manner that makes me wonder about their motives.

I am sure many others are also wondering. How do you justify spending over $350,000 for a consulting contract that was questionable in the first place, have that contractor develop a set of criteria for hiring a City Manager, set your own expectations, and then hire someone that meets none of them?

The statement that “he will be a quick study” is laughable.

I am sure he is a good person but this is a perfect example of the Peter Principle at work and validation of the old adage, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.”

Now our council has divided up the CBDG and the Hotel and Motel Tax Monies in a questionable manner. How do you drastically cut the Food Bank and Meals on Wheels? If people are hungry, all the rest of those things are meaningless.

Does Discover Odessa really need that much when you add up all the various projects that fall under their umbrella? Hopefully someday we will get a P&L statement that justifies the expenditures.

I can’t wait to see what our Council does next. I just hope they can sleep at night.
