LETTER TO THE EDITOR: National suicide?

I am amazed at the behavior of our citizens the past few years. In the political rush to “secure the nation against terrorist attack”, we ceded our personal responsibility to self defense.

The politicians, and media populated and groomed to support government notions, have convinced us our government can be/is our omnipotent protector. Creation of yet another over-arching administrating agency—Department of Homeland Security. Under that authority port inspections examining cargo for whatever hazards. Transportation Security Administration lines the traveling citizenry up to verify: you are who you are, have no designated weaponry, no liquids of exceeding whatever small amount, your removed shoes do not hide explosives, your scanned body does not conceal any weaponry, and your X-rayed carry on luggage hides no weaponry, etc.

After all this vice-like strangulation of citizen freedom—21 years of it—our southern border has not been closed to illegal entrants. In fact, the constitutional rights of citizens have been made secondary to the mass migration encouraged and facilitated by our government. Even terrorists and assassins enter across that border. No masks, no verification of health, no financial ability to self-sustain, no interest to learn english, free transportation to designated areas within our country, no tracking, no verified employment, and on, and on it goes.

At the same time the government has become a surveillance organism. Our banking transactions, telephone conversations and contacts, emails, social media monitoring and comments, travel, credit card transactions, submitted opinion articles, public speeches, real estate transactions, retirement accounts, investments, even information within the computerized systems in our personal vehicles are open source. Anyone who believes their medical information is secured without their permission is living on another planet.

So now we need to surrender more of our constitutional right to defend ourselves? The move is on by government, supported by the constitutionally protected press, to infringe ownership, possession, bearing semiautomatic firearms—these are NOT assault weapons. Doubt that? Read this aricle: [https://www.zerohedge.com/political/watch-warrantless-atf-agents-show-mans-home-perform-gun-inventory]. Just to keep the pressure on and the propaganda pure, the very common incidents of free citizens using firearms to thwart crimes will go almost completely unreported. Yet “mass shootings” will be widely and persistently reported. But wait—what of the notion that government is our omnipotent protector?

Am I the sole observer? These shooters NEVER do their deeds in the midst of armed government police, except for that Dallas shooter intent on killing police some years ago. School shooters, shopping center shooters, church shooters—all ply their evil in the full knowledge of nonconfrontational areas designated “gun free zones”. 2 current incidents burn through.

The Uvalde elementary school slaughter. That incident publicly yanked the panks down on the notion government is the omnipotent protector. Those hired, trained, equipped defenders, classified as first responders, failed to assault the class room containing that killer to kill him. He was allowed to continue his slaughter by several tiers of government first responders.

The Indiana mall shooter who killed 3 and wounded others was killed by an armed citizen very shortly into the rampage. Had that young man not been there, prepared and armed, there is no telling how many more citizens whould have been murdered before “first responders” arrived, arrayed, assessed, communicated, coordinated, removed the threat.

My country used to be a nation of citizen first responders. What has happened to us?
