If you have lived in Odessa and Ector County for any length of time, you know there are two givens. One, the wind is going to blow. Two, plastic bags are going to be all over the city.
While we can’t do anything about the wind, we can do something about the plastic bags. We can each make a personal decision to consistently use reusable bags.
Our grocery stores could and should work together charging for the use of plastic bags encouraging the use of reusables. While we could switch to paper bags, that is another environmental concern-the use of more trees and water. Think of the cost, in both time and money, our city and county face in cleaning up these eyesores.
If other cities can find answers to this problem, so can Odessa. Come on, Odessans, let’s do better. Let’s all do our part!
