Lamesa man killed in Martin County crash

A 19-year-old Lamesa man was killed and three others were injured in a two-vehicle crash 13 miles north of Midland Monday morning.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two Chevrolet Silverados were traveling south on State Highway 349 near mile marker 314 when one of them was struck from behind by the other while slowing down due to a prior crash.

Broylin James Chavez, 19, an unrestrained passenger in the second pickup truck, died of his injuries.

The occupants of the pickup that was struck, a 30-year-old Lamesa man and a 28-year-old Andrews man, were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition. Both had been wearing seat belts.

The driver of the other pickup, a 30-year-old Lamesa woman, was also taken to the hospital in stable condition. According to DPS, she had not been wearing a seat belt.
