A toddler from Hobbs, N.M., was killed in a one-vehicle crash five miles north of Midland early Monday morning.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 1-year-old boy was a passenger in a Nissan Altima that was traveling east on State Highway 349 when the car veered off the south side of the roadway and hit a fence and a utility pole.

The unrestrained child was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened around 1:30 a.m., said Sgt. Steven Blanco.

The 27-year-old driver and a 29-year-old passenger, both from Hobbs, were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
