Health professions dean leads 2022 Permian Basin Go Red for Women Movement

The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization devoted to world of healthier lives for all, has named Christina Robohm, regional dean for the Physician Assistant Program for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, as the community volunteer chair of the 2022 Permian Basin Go Red for Women movement, a press release detailed.

The campaign culminates with the Permian Basin Go Red for Women Luncheon May 4 at the Odessa Marriott and Conference Center.

Go Red for Women is a worldwide initiative of the American Heart Association designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women locally, nationally and globally.

Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined, the press release stated. Cardiovascular disease continues to be a woman’s greatest health threat, taking the life of one in every three women.

Cardiovascular disease and stroke run deep on both sides of Robohm’s family, driving her to get involved with the AHA at the leadership level.

“You may say that I won the genetic lottery with a family history of stroke and heart attacks from both my maternal and paternal relatives,” Robohm stated in the press release. “Watching my aunt become severely disabled from stroke and my grandparents change their lifestyles due to heart attacks gives me the motivation to take that walk, choose some better foods, keep my blood pressure under control and encourage others to try to live healthier. Every small step can reduce the risk.”

Robohm chose the Go Red for Women Movement for its focus on women.

“Women tend to take care of others, working tirelessly to meet the demands of personal and professional lives, yet sometimes, it can take a toll on their personal health,” Robohm stated in the press release. “The best thing we can do for our loved ones is to ensure we have active and productive lives for many years to come.”
