H-E-B to host 21st Annual Feast of Sharing

Texas grocery retailer H-E-B wants residents of the Permian Basin to come and eat their food.

The annual Feast of Sharing Dinner is scheduled from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena, and doors will open at 3:30 p.m. This will be the 21st year for the annual event.

The community event is free to the public. Known as a Texas brand, the dinner will be Texas-themed and include sliced brisket, sausage, beans, potato salad, rolls and pumpkin pie.

“This year, we’re anticipating 8,000 people to come in and have a fresh, hot meal,” Josephine Villarreal, Permian Basin Community Coordinator with H-E-B, said.

The event is also scheduled to host more than just a meal. Members of about 20 nonprofits will have tables set up to distribute information to those who request it, a children’s area that will include free popcorn and three separate bounce houses, and a video game station. Live music and mascot H-E-Buddy is also scheduled to make an appearance and hand out prizes.

A Feast of Sharing event is also scheduled for Sunday in San Angelo at the First Financial Pavillion, 4400 Grape Creek Road, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

In addition to serving a free meal to the public, H-E-B partnered with Senior Life Midland to distribute more than 500 meals to homebound seniors on Thursday.

The company has had more than 375,000 volunteers serve more than four million meals. This initiative is part of H-E-B’s Hunger Relief Program, which works year round to prevent hunger in the more than 300 communities H-E-B serves.

A native of Midland, Villarreal said she is happy she is able to be a part of a long-standing tradition that brings members of the community together.

“I am absolutely blessed and honored to be able to do this for our community and make this an event every child or senior can enjoy,” she said.
