Guadalupe Mountains National Park to resume wilderness camping permits on Friday

SALT FLAT Effective Friday, Guadalupe Mountains National Park announced that it will resume issuing wilderness use permits for overnight camping in the Guadalupe Mountains Wilderness.

All remaining precautionary camp stove use and smoking restrictions dating to April 14 and April 21 are rescinded.

The Dog Canyon developed area, including the Indian Meadow Nature Trail and the Dog Canyon Campground, remain closed due to a water system leak. Hikers accessing areas around Dog Canyon by trail from other sections of the park are cautioned that there is currently no water available at Dog Canyon.

As a reminder, day hikers and all permitted overnight backpackers are required to pack out human waste using a landfill-safe commercial toilet bag system.
