Guadalupe Mountains National Park to begin accepting wilderness camping reservations

SALT FLAT Beginning Sept. 30, visitors will be able to book reservations in advance for the park’s ten hike-in wilderness campgrounds.

The reservations can be found online at recreation.gov

Historically, visitors wishing to camp one of the park’s remote wilderness campgrounds could only make same day reservations at the Pine Springs Visitor Center.

“Allowing visitors to reserve wilderness campsites in advance online at recreation.gov will help them better prepare for a positive and safe wilderness experience” Superintendent Eric Leonard stated in the press release. “As the park marks its 50th Anniversary, this change allows the park to adapt to the next 50 years.”

Campers making wilderness permit reservations will still need to check-in at the Pine Springs Visitor Center to be issued a wilderness permit and walk up same day wilderness camping permits can still be obtained at the visitor center.

This change does not affect the reservation system for the park’s developed campsites at Pine Springs and Dog Canyon, which were added to www.recreation.gov last year. Learn more about the park’s wilderness campgrounds at tinyurl.com/yckbam68.
