MIDLAND A groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the start of the construction for Summit Center, a new green space development located at the corner of Midkiff Road and Mockingbird Lane. Summit Center will span over 20 acres and include a four-acre park.

The goal for Summit Center is to provide a place for the West Texas community to gather together and enjoy food, fun, and fellowship. Plans for the center include a food market, a variety of retail shops and restaurants, a bouldering, fitness, and physical therapy center as well as office space. While supporting local and family-owned businesses, Summit Center also plans to host a variety of fun, family-friendly events for the community at the park throughout the year, a news release said.

Leading the groundbreaking ceremony were the Johnson and Woodard families, the owners and vision behind Summit Center. In attendance for the ceremony were employees of Summit Petroleum and the design and execution team for the project: Kristina Leigh Johnson (Simply Kristina Leigh), Cale Lancaster (Rhotenberry Wellen Architects), Tim Hair (Dunaway Associates), Jacob Kirkland and Chad Henthorn (both with Teinert Construction).

Summit Petroleum will be the anchor tenant at Summit Center. Leasing opportunities for potential tenants will be available through Summit Center’s website beginning in April of 2022.

Certain businesses are planned to begin opening in the fourth quarter of 2023 with a grand opening to follow in the spring of 2024.
