Council to meet Tuesday

The Odessa City Council will hear a proposal Tuesday to install five new school zones and to remove one.

The council will be asked to remove the school zone on Center Avenue near Gale Pond Alamo Elementary and add one on East 23rd Street. Also up for consideration are the installation of school zones on College Avenue for Carver and Milam elementaries, on East 17th Street for Dowling Elementary and zones on Dawn Avenue and Bonham Avenue for Permian High School. In addition, the council will be asked to install a zone on Disney Street for Gonzales Elementary.

The council will also be hearing a proposal to award Onyx General Contractors a bid of nearly $4.2 million to create water detention basins to make water flow more manageable near Yukon and Faudree roads.

The council will also be asked to consider awarding a bid to JD King Construction for nearly $396,000 to pave a new roadĀ  east of Billy Hext Road. Estancia Boulevard will be curbed from 56th Street to Highway 191 and have street lights. JD King was the lowest of three bids received. The other bids came in at $879,297 and $567,800.

In other matters, the councilĀ  will be asked to purchase four ambulances for just over $1.5 million from Siddons Martin Emergency Group of Denton.
