First Farmers Market of the summer is Saturday

After a one year hiatus, the Parks Legado Farmers Market is set to return this summer in Odessa.

The first one will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Parks Legado Town Center.

First held in 2017, the Farmers Market has looked to provide a space for interaction between West Texas Farmers, bakers, artisans and consumers with the mission to promote local production of agricultural and specialty products.

This year’s schedule for the Farmers Market will be on Saturday, July 10, Aug. 14 and Sept. 11.

“I think it’s really exciting for us to gather again in person because we weren’t able to do that last year and it’s really hard to do a modified version of the farmer’s market,” Sewell Family marketing director Andrew Marshall said. “So many of the events were moved to a virtual event and you can’t really sell produce, virtually. We’re excited to gather again. One of the biggest blessings for us is that it’s been a really good opportunity to support the community. It’s a blessing for all of our farmers who were hurt last year because they didn’t have an avenue to sell things like they normally did. We’re excited because they’re excited.”

Marshall says that this year’s event will include 80 vendors, making it the largest market that has been put on.

“It’ll be the largest Farmers Market in West Texas,” Marshall said.

That’ll be the main difference between the Farmers Market this year versus what they’ve put up in the past.

“It’s bigger and better,” Marshall said. “We’ve worked with the community to see what they want at the Farmers Market so our vendor selection correlates with what our community wants out of them. There’ll be a little bit of everything and we’re trying to prioritize traditional Farmers Market booths and other things that people told us what they wanted like food trucks and ping pong and cornhole and live music. We’ve tried to fill in the gap and create an event that’s community driven. We listen to the community. It’s more in line with what the community wants and bigger and better.”
