AUSTIN Discussing an inclusive approach to future energy demands, the Kay Bailey Hutchison Energy Center for Business, Law and Policy will convene industry leaders for its 8th annual symposium at The University of Texas at Austin Friday, Sept. 15, a press release detailed.
Entitled “Energy Realities: Best of ‘All of the Above’,” the symposium will bring together business, government, and academic experts at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center on the UT campus. As recent geopolitical and economic developments have made it clear that an inclusive approach to energy sources is critical, symposium speakers will share their perspectives on multifaceted solutions — from renewables to traditional oil and gas — to meet future energy demands and decarbonization goals.

Critical Discussions
The symposium will explore the state of global hydrocarbon markets, carbon capture, and hydrogen developments, the opportunity for new natural gas and LNG infrastructure in the United States, the challenges of meeting growing electricity demand, and the geopolitical implications of the evolving energy landscape.
The event will feature special guests Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Dean Bobby Chesney of UT’s School of Law, and Dean Lillian Mills of the McCombs School of Business. Maynard Holt, Founder and CEO of Veriten, will serve as moderator.

Symposium Honoree Dinner
On Thursday, Sept.14, the KBH Energy Center will honor Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Donald “Don” Evans with its Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Excellence in the Energy Industry during the 8th Annual Symposium Dinner. The award recognizes an individual who has made significant and sustained contributions to the energy industry and serves as role model for the industry leaders of tomorrow. Previous recipients include Vicki Hollub, Jeff Hildebrand, Scott Sheffield, L.E. Simmons, Rex Tillerson, and James Mulva.
Evans was appointed 34th U.S. Secretary of the Commerce in 2001 by President George W. Bush, serving until 2005. Currently, Evans serves as chair of the George W. Bush Foundation, as chair of the Permian Strategic Partnership, and as a senior advisor at Energy Capital Partners. Before joining the Bush Administration, for 15 years he was the CEO of Tom Brown, Inc., a large independent energy company. Evans attended UT Austin, earning a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1969 and an MBA in 1973.
