Elderly man killed, passenger critically injured in crash

An elderly Frisco man was killed and his companion critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning near Murphy Street and Business 20.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, John Edward Grube, 86, was traveling east on Murphy Street in a Honda Odyssey when he failed to yield the right-of-way and turned left onto Highway 80 in front of a Ford F-250 with a trailer.

After the two vehicles collided, the Ford was struck by a train, but not until after the 28-year-old driver was able to exit. The Corpus Christi man was taken to Medical Center Hospital in stable condition, a DPS news release stated.

Grube was pronounced dead at the scene and his 90-year-old passenger, a woman from Frisco, was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock in critical condition.
