UTPB hosts entrepreneurial challenge check presentation

UT Permian Basin would like to invite you to the Midland Entrepreneurial Challenge check presentation ceremony on Monday. The check presentations will begin at 7:45 p.m. at The Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center in the Rea Greathouse Recital Hall.

The Midland Entrepreneurial Challenge is a six-month business boot camp competition which began in September of 2022 and gives entrepreneurs a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at free funding for their start up or to grow their existing business.

This year, MEC had over 100 businesses sign up to attend orientation, and 52 register to compete in the challenge. After 3 rounds of competition, the final four businesses were recently selected to receive their share of the $500,000 prize money.

After each round of competition, a number of participants were eliminated, leaving the final eight businesses to pitch to the judges. MEC was privileged to have four prominent businessmen and women in the community volunteer their time to judge the competition.

The final four businesses who have been selected to receive the prize money will be presented with checks by the Midland Development Corporation Board Chairman; Chase Gardaphe and John Norman; Midland City Council District 2, Mayor Pro Tempore. Additional Midland Development Corporation Board (and) City Council Members will also be in attendance.

The Midland Entrepreneurial Challenge will have a direct and positive economic impact for Midland by creating jobs and bringing revenue into the city.

This year’s winners are:

>> Toya’s Precious Jewels $150,000

>> Central Bites $150,000

>> The Tailgate $100,000

>> Midland Athletic Company $100,000

Total of $500,000.
