Monuments Men author to address MISD students

Midland ISD will welcome Robert M. Edsel to its campuses Wednesday.

Edsel will be appear from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Legacy High School, 3500 Neely Ave. on Wednesday.

Edsel is the No. 1 New York Times best-selling author of The Monuments Men, which chronicles the group of scholars turned World War II soldiers who risked their lives to protect artwork, archives, and monuments from the destruction of war and theft by the Nazis. The book was adapted into a 2014 Hollywood film of the same name, produced by George Clooney and starring Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Clooney, a news release said.

Today, Edsel is recognized as a renowned advocate for cultural heritage protection and art restitution. He is Founder and Chairman of the Monuments Men and Women Foundation, which honors the heroes’ accomplishments and continues the mission of finding and returning Nazi-looted art and cultural objects missing since WWII.
