Ector County ISD to celebrate 100th birthday this week

The big day is this week. On Wednesday, Ector County Independent School District officially turns 100 years old.

In 1921, during a special session of the Texas Legislature, House Bill 59 created the Ector County Independent School District, consolidating several local schools. The bill was signed and went into effect on Aug. 18, 1921.

On Wednesday, ECISD will celebrate in several ways. The School Nutrition Department has created a cookie for every school lunch, the Education Foundation is sending a treat to every employee, schools can participate with activities designed around “100” and district leaders will hold a press conference, outdoors in the meditation garden at Austin Montessori Magnet Elementary, 901 N. Lee St.

Between 12:30-1 p.m. the District will be announcing plans for more events — and gifts ECISD will be receiving — over the next 10 months.

Community members, businesses and organizations are invited to join the social media celebration on Wednesday afternoon by posting birthday wishes using #ECISD100Years and #HBDecisd.

A 100th Celebration web page is active and will be updated with information frequently.
