Driver collides with motorcyclist near airport

On Thursday at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers with the Midland Police Department responded to an accident involving a motorcyclist near Midland International Air and Space Port.

Initial investigation revealed a driver, driving a Hyundai Santa Fe, was traveling south and in the turning lane of Farm-to-Market Road 1788 near Loop 40, west of the airport.

The driver did not see a motorcyclist traveling north in the outside lane of FM 1788, attempted to turn and collided with the motorcyclist operating the 2021 Ducati, a news release said.

The motorcyclist was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with serious bodily injury. MPD also reported that the driver of the Santa Fe was released pending further investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
