DPS reports deaths in separate wrecks

Three people have lost their lives in separate accidents in the Permian Basin in recent days.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Lubbock resident Becky Lea Wilson, 53, was traveling south on State Highway 349 when her Hyundai Tucson veered into the northbound lanes around 11 a.m. Sunday, causing her to over-correct and the vehicle to roll.

Wilson, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which took place six miles north of Midland.

On Monday morning, Enrique Segovia Olivas, 93, of Fort Stockton, was killed when his Chevrolet Silverado veered off southbound FM 1053 eight miles north of Fort Stockton. The Chevy went into a west barrow ditch and then hit a fence before stopping, according to DPS.

Olivas, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Odessa Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His 66-year-old passenger, another Fort Stockton resident, was uninjured.

On Tuesday, Gary Keimer Ball, a 56-year-old Cedar Bluff, Virginia, resident was killed around 5:30 a.m. in Reeves County, according to DPS.

Ball was traveling west on SH 302 in a Freightliner Glider with trailer when the vehicle crossed the center line near milemarker 186 and collided with a Mack truck going east and caught fire, according to DPS.

Ball was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Mack truck, a 74-year-old man from Houston, was taken to Reeves County Hospital in stable condition.
