Dog Rescue R Us ready for fundraiser

Dog Rescue R Us will be having a fundraiser from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Diamond’s in Odessa.

Dog Rescue R Us is a non-profit organization that began in January 2019 that has saved more than 11,000 dogs in the community since its inception.

The organization has since built a facility in Gardendale with donated land by giving donors.

The event will help raise money for the Dog Rescue R Us facility and will include a cornhole competition, shuffle board contest, Golden Tee Tournament as well as a hot dog and hot chip challenge.

An onsite DJ will be hosting a karaoke and dance contest. The night will also include an adoption event.

Event Planning and Marketing for Dog Rescue R Us Samantha Hill said the fundraiser is with Jordan’s Way Foundation which is a national foundation where the founder goes around to different shelters across the country and goes live on TV for three hours and raises money for dog food and overall maintenance.

“So we’ve partnered with them to raise money,” Hill said. “We did this last year and it was our first year doing it.”

Dog Rescue R Us ended up raising the most money with $58,000 as they were crowned “national champions.”

“It’s whoever can raise the most money and then whoever does that, Jordan’s Way Foundation will give a bonus or incentive on top of what you already raise,” Hill said. “This year, it’s going to be super fun.”

Dog Rescue R Us Co-Founder Dana Tinley talked about this fundraiser and how it helps get the name out about the organization.

“This helps people to get to know us better outside of our state and community and to educate them about who we are,” Tinley said. “Last year we won the money and we were able to use that money to complete the facility with it.”

This year, Dog Rescue R Us has a goal of $100,000.

“We’re really just leaning on the community,” Hill said. “We’re hoping that everyone in the community can tell their friends and bring their friends. We’re really hoping that the oil field community will create big donations to us and just really put us on the map to win again. We’re hoping that business in the community will look out for us and help dogs that have been abandoned or abused.”

Over the years, the rescue has been constantly inundated with animals in need of help but Hill says the organization is grateful for the community’s support in helping them give many pets a second chance.

“It’s really just by the grace of God,” Hill said. “It’s all God’s doing. Everyone that’s been associated with this organization is an amazing person. They all work super hard. When this actually started, it was never the intent for it to grow like it has, especially in (almost) four years. … By the end of the day, we just keep going.”

The organization helps vet and transport dogs to safe homes up north.

“West Texas is just one of the worst places for abandoned or abused dogs,” Hill said. “It’s so sad but it is and that’s the truth. We’re not a shelter. We do shelter dogs for a period of time but it costs a lot of money to house these dogs and we typically ship them up north and give them good homes. They actually have waiting lists for dogs up north. They love their dogs. This is a ministry and everyone that works here believes in it with all their hearts that these dogs deserve something better and we’re here to provide it for them and keep moving in that direction.”
