District releases details on Sam Houston lockdown

Ector County ISD has provided more details about the lockdown Tuesday at Sam Houston Elementary School, 300 E. 37th St.

A news release said a man banged on windows and tried to enter the back door of the school. Though it was reported that the man entered the office, that is incorrect; he never entered the building. The lockdown was lifted after approximately 30 minutes and students were dismissed.

The man involved is a 20-year-old special needs man who dressed in a tactical gear Halloween costume and was walking in the neighborhood, the release said.

“We want to thank the staff and the students for their response to the situation; our ECISD police for immediately being on scene and securing the campus; and the parents for their calm during a scary situation, and their support as it came to an end and school was dismissed,” the release said.
