MIDLAND The Salvation Army is excited to bring former Dallas Cowboy and three-time Super Bowl winner Darren Woodson to Midland as the speaker for the 2023 Restoration Celebration Dinner on Thursday, May 18.
The annual fundraiser event is a celebration and recognition of The Salvation Army’s work, along with the many donors and volunteers that make our mission of meeting human needs without discrimination in the name of Jesus Christ a reality in our community. The event will once again take place at the Midland Country Club, 6101 N. State Highway 349, and will feature guest speaker Darren Woodson, stories of restoration and success from Salvation Army clients, silent and live auctions, dinner, and musical entertainment, according to a Tuesday press release.
A three-time Super Bowl champion and five-time Pro Bowl selection, Darren Woodson is often recognized as one of the greatest players to wear a Dallas Cowboys uniform. Throughout his 12 seasons (1992-2004) with the Cowboys, he earned a reputation as one of the hardest hitters and most ferocious safeties in the NFL.
“Darren Woodson has a long association with The Salvation Army during his time with the Cowboys, volunteering alongside teammates to serve Thanksgiving dinner at the Carr P. Collins center in Dallas, and supporting the Angel Tree program at Christmastime,” Captain Robert Coriston with The Salvation Army of Midland, said in the release. “More recently, he has served as the host of The Salvation Army of North Texas Christmas Spectacular on TV, and we are thrilled to have him as our guest speaker at the 2023 Restoration Celebration Dinner here in Midland.”
The Salvation Army has served Midland County for more than 65 years providing shelter, food, and financial assistance, as well as spiritual care to the community. That work cannot be done without the army of supporters that stand behind the organization.
