Man charged in fatal collision

A 22-year-old man was arrested following a fatal collision over Labor Day Weekend, an Odessa Police Department press release detailed.

Leonel Torres, 22, of Odessa was charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle, a second-degree felony.

The fatal collision reportedly happened at 2:47 a.m. Sept. 5 in the 4000 block of East 52nd Street.

Investigation showed a Black 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe being operated by Torres was traveling west on 52nd Street at a high rate of speed before leaving the roadway and striking and fence and a tree, a press release detailed.

Torres and a rear passenger, identified as Alexis Luna, were reportedly ejected and transported to Medical Center Hospital with life-threatening injuries. OPD announced Tuesday morning that Luna had died. The front passenger, identified as Bryan Contreras, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Torres has been booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Thursday, jail records show. He has two bonds totaling $120,000 and was still in custody as of Friday afternoon.
