Celebrated Austin-based artist Heidi Pitre returns to the Permian Basin with her exhibit of library card art, a press release from the Ector County Library detailed.
“A Permanent Record” repurposes vintage author-themed library cards into unique artworks that celebrate the written word.
Pitre’s work will be exhibited at the Ector County Library first floor from Sept. 6 to Nov. 19. A special reception will be held for Pitre, as well as new library director Howard Marks, at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 16 on the first floor.
Pitre will also hold a library card art workshop at 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Ector County Library. The reception and workshop are both free of charge and open to the public.
This will coincide with September’s library card sign up month. If a person doesn’t have a card, the Ector County Library highly encourages them to apply for one at no charge.
The Ector County Library is partnering with Odessa Arts, The Writers’ League of Texas and Friends of the Ector County Library for a special week of literary-themed events during library card sign up month.
The Ector County Library was first established in 1938. It’s free and open to the public, serves all ages, has an extensive collection of 200,000 print books, more than 20,000 e-books, nearly 100 databases and serves a population of more than 160,000 people locally and regionally.
