Commissioners to consider extending burn ban

During its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Ector County Commissioners will consider, discuss and take any necessary action regarding the 90-day burn ban that was approved in March.

The 90-day burn ban, which is the longest the commissioners can approve a burn ban for, will either be extended or discontinued.

This agenda item is scheduled to be presented by the Director Ector County Environmental Enforcement/Ector County Emergency Management Coordinator Rickey George.

Commissioners will discuss this agenda item and others during a meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the commissioners courtroom at the Ector County Administration Annex, Room 120, 1010 East Eighth St.

In addition to the burn ban that is set in place, commissioners voted unanimously in April to extend a local declaration of local disaster related to wildfires.

The local disaster declaration doesn’t have an end date and the commissioners will have to vote again to end the declaration. Ector County Judge Debi Hays said in a previous Odessa American article that won’t happen until after the wildfire season is over.

There will also be an update and status report from the Ector County Library Committee and the Ivy Group.

Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis is scheduled to speak with the commissioners about considering, discussing, and taking any necessary action regarding an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between Ector County and Burnet County for jail services.

Commissioners will also have the same discussion about an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between Kerr County and Ector County for jail services.

Griffis told the Odessa American on Monday that none of Ector County’s inmates were housed in Burnet or Kerr counties, but the agreement is a safety net just in case inmates need to be housed there.
