Commissioners set to speak about American Rescue Plan Act funds

Ector County commissioners at 10 a.m. Tuesday will discuss the $16.1 million that the county has received from the United States Congress’s American Rescue Plan Act and consider their options for how to spend it.

Two weeks ago, they heard a plea from Medical Center Hospital for $7 million from the funding to buy ventilators and hire more staff to cope with the recent spike in coronavirus cases.

Commissioners said then that they would review that proposal and requests from other entities for shares of the money along with the county’s own needs.

In other business, the commissioners will hear a report from the Bickerstaff, Heath, Delgado and Acosta law firm of Austin about political redistricting based on last year’s national census.

They will also:

>> Consider a $50,000 budget amendment to cover medical contract services at the law enforcement center.

>> Discuss topics related to the hearings held last week on the 2021-22 budget that will be adopted Sept. 28.

>> Consider hiring maintenance technicians for the rest of this fiscal year for $16.57 per hour.

>> Discuss applying for funding for the Harmony Home Children’s Advocacy Center from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

>> Consider renewing the health department’s contract with Accela Software.

>> Review the county’s contract with Travelers Indemnity Insurance and USI Insurance Services for the coverage of property, inland marine, commercial general liability, commercial auto liability with a $10,000 deductible, commercial auto physical damage, commercial umbrella excess liability, employee benefits liability, law enforcement liability, public entity management liability, drone hull and liability and public entity employment-related practices liability.

>> Discuss the county’s oil and gas leases with Brazos River Resources.

>> Consider the sheriff’s civil process fees.

>> Review an interlocal agreement with the City of Odessa for the 2021 Byrne Justice Assistance Program Award.

>> Consider the Area Agency on Aging’s 2021-22 budget.
