City being sued following wreck

An Ector County man has filed a lawsuit against the City of Odessa claiming an Odessa police officer caused a wreck in which he was injured.

According to the lawsuit filed Friday in Ector County District Court, Juan Gerardo Ramos was traveling east on the Interstate 20 south service road on Feb. 23, 2022 when Officer Bailey Alexander Thurman performed an illegal U-turn while traveling directly in front of him and it caused him to crash into Thurman.

Ramos is seeking $250,000-$1 million from the city alleging the city was negligent in hiring, training and supervising Thurman.

Ramos would like to be compensated for medical bills, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages and loss of earning capacity.

The City of Odessa does not comment on pending litigation, said Interim City Attorney Dan Jones.
