Career fair, robotics prep coming up

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Odessa is holding a Healthcare Career Fair from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the TTUHSC-PB campus in Odessa.

The Career Fair is being held to provide opportunity for students in the Permian Basin access, interaction and information on what a career in healthcare would look like. This program is targeted specifically to those students seeking a goal to become a physician and the opportunities they have to attend local schools, including ECISD, a news release said.

Additionally, the STEM Academy, at UTPB, has five teams going to the FTC (First Tech Challenge) league championship this weekend. One of the teams is in 1st place and several of the others are ranked high.

All five teams will be preparing for competition at 1 p.m. Friday at STEM.

The release said it’s more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (up to 15 team members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team.
