Brother turns brother in on weapons issue

A 28-year-old Odessa man was arrested on a weapons charge Thursday after his brother called police on him.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, a resident of the 4900 block of Lancaster Drive called 911 and said Abraham Hernandez was in a storage shed in the backyard firing a weapon.

Officers saw Hernandez on a security camera with a .9 mm Ruger handgun in his hand and heard a gunshot, the report stated.

Officers set up a perimeter and got Hernandez to come out of the shed. After they took him into custody and read him his Miranda Rights, Hernandez told the officers he’d just bought the gun and test fired it into the ground next to the shed he lives in, the report stated.

Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm in certain municipalities. He was released the same day after posting a $1,000 surety bond.
