BRASWELL: Others make a difference

By Dr. Jimmy Braswell

Chaplain, Home Hospice of Odessa

I read recently about a family who had a terrible loss of a loved one.

The loss was made worse by harassment and mocking through social media. It is almost unbelievable that people can be so cruel as to harass people who are grieving with past disagreements or unsettled disputes, but here is the reality.

Everything the family was experiencing that should have been a natural part of grieving was complicated by the tainting of the experience by unforgiven past experiences and the absence of empathy and sympathy.

I have also experienced personally in my own grief experiences the comfort and help through the grief experience by the expressions of love, cards of encouragement, and sharing of patience with me as I journeyed the grief way.

Others are important, you are important, in helping your friends and neighbors negotiate the grief journey. Thank you for loving your neighbors and helping them through what is deep injury and yet seems unseen. Others make a big difference. You make all the difference.
