Big Spring man dies in 4-vehicle collision

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a press release detailed a 25-year-old Big Spring man died in four-vehicle collision in Martin County.

The reported fatal collision happened at 4:44 p.m. Dec. 21 at State Highway 349 about 10 miles North of Midland.

DPS detailed that Joshua Paul McCracken, 25, of Big Spring was driving a 2016 Chevrolet 2500, while Jorge Valdes, 53, of Lakeland, Fla., was driving a 2015 Freightliner with trailer. Barbara Browning Dunton, 64, of Midland was driving a 2018 Ford Explorer, while Ronald William Mann, 51, of Lamesa was driving a 2018 Ford F-150.

Preliminary investigation showed the Freightliner was traveling southbound on State Highway 349 and was stopped in the inside lane waiting to turn left onto a private road, the press release stated. Chevrolet 2500 was also southbound on State Highway 349 when the driver failed to control speed and struck the trailer of the Freightliner from the rear.

The Explorer was also southbound on State Highway 349 and as a result of the collision the Freightliner and Chevrolet 2500, it also struck the trailer of the Freightliner. The F-150 was also northbound on State Highway 349 and was struck by debris as a result of the collision in the southbound lane.

McCracken was transported to the Midland Memorial Hospital was pronounced dead by medical staff. DPS detailed he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt.

Valdes, Dunton and Mann weren’t injured.
