Arrest made in February fatal crash

A 37-year-old Brownwood man was arrested Tuesday on a warrant issued in March following an alcohol-related crash that killed a 23-year-old man.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety report, Primitivo Aaron Guerrero was traveling south in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 385 in a Chevrolet Silverado when he struck Juan Rodriguez’s Chevy Silverado head-on around 11:50 p.m. February 19.

Rodriguez was killed and his passenger, a 21-year-old man, sustained severe injuries and was taken to Medical Center Hospital.

Guerrero slurred his words, had red blood shot eyes and performed poorly on field sobriety tests, the report stated. He told troopers the other driver “jumped the median,” but the crash took place in a section of the highway where a grassy median and cable barrier separate the north and southbound lanes.

He, too, was taken to MCH where he was treated for his injuries and his blood was drawn.

According to the report, the results of Guerrero’s blood tests came back March 26 and showed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.241.

A warrant was obtained for Guerrero for intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

He remained in the Ector County jail Wednesday night on surety bonds totaling $40,000.
