Andrews man killed in late night crash

An Andrews man was killed late Sunday night in a crash at State Highway 158 and FM 1936 in Ector County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Shane Pena-Tarango, 34, was traveling north on FM 1936 in a Ford F-150 when he disregarded the stop sign at SH158 and struck a Freightliner being driven west on SH158 by a 43-year-old man from Wichita, Kansas.

Pena-Tarango, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the Ford and pronounced dead at the scene. His 28-year-old passenger, a woman from Andrews who was wearing a seat belt, was treated at Medical Center Hospital and released.

The driver of the Freightliner wasn’t hurt.
