Air passenger traffic jumps again

The number of passengers flying out of Midland International Air & Space Port in February jumped by 14.25% compared to one year earlier.

The number of people flying on airlines out of Midland climbed from 47,088 in February 2023 to 53,797 last month. City officials also reported that the increase pushed the year-to-date totals to 285,969 – an 11.5% increase compared fiscal year 2023.

Southwest Airlines again carried the largest share of passengers, with around 46.7% of the total in February. Southwest, United, and American Eagle all fly into and out of Midland. In December, the City of Midland announced that Delta will become the fourth airline to provide service, beginning on April 22, 2024, a news release said.

City officials also reported that parking revenue at Midland International Air & Space Port increased 12.8% in February (compared to February 2023). The $587,754 in net parking revenue increased the fiscal year-to-date total to $3.221 million, a 14.37% increase compared to the first five months of FY 2023.
