Abbott awarding grants across Texas

Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday his Public Safety Office will be awarding more than $355 million in grants to law enforcement agencies across the state using federal and state dollars.

According to a news release, awards were given for bullet resistant vests, forensic evidence testing, homeland security, the prevention and prosecution of human trafficking, investigating internet crimes against children, truancy prevention, enhancing security at non-profit organizations, residential substance abuse treatment, sexual assault evidence testing and emergency radio infrastructure, among other things.

“Texas continues working to improve and enhance the safety of our communities through comprehensive programs and services that help keep Texans safe,” Abbott said in the news release. “This crucial grant funding will further bolster organizations and agencies as they work around the clock to ensure justice for victims of crime, protect against threats, prevent human trafficking, and support statewide emergency infrastructure, among other critical public safety initiatives. Working together, we are creating a safer future for all Texans.”
